little surprised By Tyler on 3/4/14Tyler would recommend this product to a friendI ordered 20lb of this and got 1 massive shelf. So big so it will definitely have to be altered in order to fit in my tank. Which is actually sad because by its an amazing piece, I thought I was going toget 2 shelves thats the only reason I didn't rate it higher. 1 drimel tool later and I have 3 much smaller shelves and a large base piece allIis right in the world.
will not buy rocks from BRS again By madhu on 2/20/14madhu wouldn't recommend this product to a friendThey messed up my previous order (ordered multibranch complex and nothing was complex or multibranch, but cylinders) and I thought they wont screw up my next order, but they did.
1: My total order should weigh 60 pounds, but when I weighed the rocks they weighed 52 lbs. So 8 lbs missing and waste of money.
2: I ordered shelf rock with base but none of them had base. If at least one rock had base then I would have been happy. They were are triangular plates. Also, I ordered 20" large rock which was just a rectangular plate with no solid base. Just buy their pukani and don't buy shelf rock.
want to return all and buy pukani
Picture is misleading By Shep on 2/5/14Shep would recommend this product to a friendI bought this thinking that it would look like it did in the picture. instead it was just a flat triangle piece of rock. Still was nice but would not have gotten if I had known
not what i expected By Nicholas on 1/16/14Nicholas would recommend this product to a friendI was excited to get this rock. It was super big. Too big for my 75 gallon. I wanted to chop it down however I couldnt justify the 1 1/2-2 inch thickness for my application. The pictures were a little decieving on width of the shelf. My tank upgrade will get this rock
Great Rock By George on 12/30/13George would recommend this product to a friendBought over 20lbs of this stuff. Extra clean and extra porous. Great for adding beauty and hiding places in your tank and housing beneficial bacteria. When I ordered, brs was extra generous and gave me giant pieces... great for my brother's 240 gallon set up!
Stellar in every way By Bert on 12/12/13Bert would recommend this product to a friendI ordered 50 lbs of this, specifying at least 2 "show pieces", and all I can say is WOW ... This is outta sight stuff and BRS did a great job. I can't wait to get this into my tank a few weeks from now.
BEAUTIFUL ROCK By James on 9/28/13James would recommend this product to a friendThis rock was well packaged, none broken. Lovely shelf rock, almost the size of a turkey platter. Great product, thanks again BRS!
THIS ROCK ROCKS! By MICHAELO on 9/21/13MICHAELO would recommend this product to a friendI made a request in the comment section of the order and told BRS my tank specs 120 gal, 48x24x24 and what I was looking for and OMG, what I received was fricken awesome. I only chose 20# but what I received was one, 22.3 lb 2ft x 16in one leg and a tunnel in the middle piece of rock (looks like the picture, 3rd one from the left). Holy Mackrel, this rock will definitely be a centerpiece in my aquascape. No rubble in bag and packed like the pros BRS is!!!
Massive shelf rock By Richard on 9/20/13Richard would recommend this product to a friendThis is one of the most beautiful pieces of dry rock I've seen. Got the 20+". well worth the $. Ordered 40# and received 2 very large shelf pieces. Great for a center piece.

I have a 16 gallon tall nano tank with dimensions 20x10x18. I am looking for a shelf rock with base to use in this tank. I know it's impossible to make things perfect but did you have one roughly 8" or so in diameter with the base making the entire rock structure anywhere from 13-15" tall? I was looking to go with one rock structure in this tank. Thanks-
Bulk Reef Supply Hi Pete,
The shelf pieces with bases are very very large, in almost all cases there larger then it appears the dimensions of your tank are (they had to grow big to develop a base to begin with). In your case the only shelf rocks that are going to fit in your tank with be the without base pieces (which are usually pieces fragmented off of larger ones).

Approximately how heavy is a 30" piece of shelf rock (no base)?
Bulk Reef Supply HI Patrick,
A 30" piece will almost always have a base and I would expect it to weigh in the ballpark of atleast 30lbs, usually closer to 40-50 depending on the shape and total size.
Picking: If you are interested in the jumbo pieces, please specify your request in the comments area during checkout. Customer service will contact you for more details if required.
Shipping: Tonga Shelf can be fragile. BRS makes every effort to securely pack the Tonga Shelf. However, we have no control how UPS handles it and it may break during shipping. Unfortunately this is not covered by insurance so we are unable to replace broken pieces.
Dry live rock is not available for shipment to Canada due to high tariffs. Please consider Reef Saver rock as it is not subject to these fees and is our favorite of the dry rocks available.
Like all of our dry rock Tonga Shelf is free of nuisance algae and pests which can cause complete tank shut downs and is guaranteed to be free of apitasia, bubble algae, parasitic isopods, mantis shrimp, acro eating flat worms, little red bugs, fire worms, predatory nudibranchs, pyramidellid snails and other common pests.
Using Dry Rock has the following advantages:
- Low initial cost on premium types of rock.
- Pound for pound a way better value - no water weight.
- Can be shipped standard UPS ground which saves a fortune on shipping.
- Absolutely pest free. This is the most important reason. This allows you to completely avoid all of the most common aquarium pests that plague most aquarists.
