New to Tunze’s lineup is the Tunze Nanostream 6020 and 6040 “discrete” powerheads. These powerheads aren’t like anything we have seen from Tunze before. Instead of a typical straight on powerhead design like most propeller pumps, these are designed with a special flow deflector and are mounted vertically. The idea is that they are easy to discreetly place behind rockwork. When the pumps run they create a wide dispersed flow across the tank.

The 6020 and 6040 models look similar but are more different under the hood than it looks. The Tunze 6020 is the “stream economical” pump, which runs at 660gph. The Tunze 6040 is what they call the “stream intelligent” model. It is a 12v DC controllable pump that operates from 53 to about 1200gph and is compatible with the 7095, 7096, and new 7097 controllers.
