Great small package! By James on 3/25/13
James would recommend this product to a friendi needed a sump for both my current 60 gallon and wanted something I could expand for my next tank a 100 gallon reef. This fits in my cabinet, is flexible for either refugium or berlin style sump and its nice and quiet! -
Good for a starter sump By Casey on 3/6/13
Casey would recommend this product to a friendI purchased the Model 3 ProFlex for my first saltwater system which is a 90 gallon tank. I can say that it was good for starting out, but I added a 15 gallon tank for my refugium because I did not have enough room to have a refugium, protein skimmer, and carbon reactor in it. I would not recommend drilling it for an external pump because the plastic walls are a little too weak. -
Great By Tom on 12/27/12
Tom would recommend this product to a friendI am very pleased with this product. It can be easily changed to fit your aquariums. It is great for reef aquariums with the advanced filtration. There is a lot of room to add a large Refugium and skimmer. You just need to buy a return pump and your ready to roll! -
Makes a great sump By Chad on 12/16/12
Chad would recommend this product to a friendI am very pleased with this product. It is setup as a modular unit that can be be easily made into any popular style of pump. I got a model 2 (set up Berlin style) for my 75gal reef and couldn't be happier with it.
It is held underneath my tank in a stand compartment and holds all my goodies. Reactor in/outs, heater, ATO, and over sized skimmer. -
Good sump, needs a little modding By Ali on 11/12/12
Ali would recommend this product to a friendI got the model 3 for my 120 gallon tank and at first i had my skimmer in the return chamber, witch was a bad idea since i was getting a ton of micro bubbles in the DT. so i removed the socks from the first chamber and plumbed thg skimmer in the first section added some live rock and made a nice 5 inch sand bed in the refugium and added some macro algae and cant complain . water is so clear and the skimmer is skimming all the nasty poo and uneaten fish food. and no bubbles in the DT any more. my only regrt i wish i got model 4 could have had more room in the first and second stage to have more live rock in it. P.S i added a 1200 maxi jet to the first stage so i don't have any detritus stuck under the live rocks and the skimmer does the rest so there is no need for any filter socks changes or cleaning, very maintenance free. -
Shockingly quiet, great for a berlin, a stretch as a refugium By jeff on 11/5/12
jeff would recommend this product to a friendThe design is EXTREMELY quiet, i can just barely hear the water in the sump when i close the cabinet doors, this was my primary objective for this purchase. A lot of space is used up on the filter sock chamber so make sure that your equipment is going to fit in the other 2 chambers before buying. My skimmer is the diablo xs160 and it just barely fit in chamber 2 of the model 3. I played around with the skimmer in chamber 3 thinking i would pull off a refugium in chamber 2 but it just didn't work out mostly due to the fact that i couldn't get the water level in chamber 3 to the depth that was needed for the skimmer without having the water level being pretty darn close to overflow when all the power was off. -
Solid Product By Joey on 7/9/12
Joey would recommend this product to a friendI have the Model 1. It works very well, but could use a little more room in the return section, but other than that, everything is working great. -
Good for beginners By Hannon on 6/17/12
Hannon wouldn't recommend this product to a friendI bought this sump thinking it was the latest sump technology, when in fact it isn't. The latest methods require alterations in the sump. The refugium and sump compartments are opposite of what many experts have recommended. Not many skimmers will fit in the compartment intended for it. I recieved a model 2 that just fits under my stand and have been working out how to make it do all I want. I recommend deciding which sump method you want and then seeing if someone has done it with that model. -
Good product By Tom on 6/4/12
Tom would recommend this product to a friendI found that this sump was well built and does its purpose well. The skimmer in the same chamber as the return pump is far from ideal but with some foam placement and a little trial and error you can make it work out without micro bubbles in the display tank.
If you have a skimmer that has the option to run your feed pump remotely like the Aqua-c ev series this totally solves the issue. But over all its a good purchase and worth the money if you dont want to mess with silicone and glass to make your own sump. -
well built By Richard on 3/27/12
Richard would recommend this product to a friendwell built, sturdy, and great value. got the model 2 for a 72g bowfront, and fits perfectly under the standard cabinet for that bowfront tank. still skeptical about the skimmer being in the same chamber as the return pump, and microbubbles will be an issue. I eliminated a lot of that issue by putting one of them round black sponge prefilter on the output of the skimmer. seems to work for the time being -
Good Product! By Artem on 2/21/12
Artem would recommend this product to a friendI have the model 3 running on a 100 gallon and couldn't be happier with it. Fits my pump, skimmer, heater and all the probes with space to spare. Does exactly what its supposed to. -
Good product with a few minor issues By AG on 1/9/12
AG would recommend this product to a friendThe sump is big and pretty cool.
The acrylic is a little thin. On mine, the top acrylic plate near the two intake holes bows.
Water splashes up from the intake area and creates a lot of salt creep between the same, bowed top acrylic plate and the adjacent, black removable plate. The salt creep gets on the top of the unit and drips down 2 sides.
There is no provided method to fix the black plastic divider plate between the filter sock chamber and the refugium chamber. I have no clue why that is the case.
Overall, this is a good product. Someone with a limited budget can probably make the same sort of product DIY with a 30 gallon used aquarium and bunch of acrylic plates, time and patience.

What size sump do we need for a 135 gal saltwater tank? We attempted to build our own but cannot seem to get the silicone to set up. Any thoughts? We are using plexiglass for the sump.
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Melissa,
Great question. When its all said and done with I would get the biggest sump that can fit in your stand and your budget. Trust me, you will always find more and more stuff you want to put in there :-) We use the proflex 4 for our 120g in the office and it does a great job and having baffles in there already makes life easier! Just don't forget to take into account the size of any equipment (like skimmers) you know your putting in there. -

Just wondering how you have the dims laid out on the unit. Is it HxDxW? Kinda limited on my height so need to kjow so I can check fitment!
Bulk Reef Supply Hey Kevin,
Good question. It is laid out as Length x Width (front to back) x Height. So the proflex 4 for example is about 19" tall. -

Hi all!
I'm thinking of replacing my sump and this one (Aqueon ProFlex Sump Filtration System Model 2) is among my top choices. Could you tell me the size of the filter socks it uses? It looks like the 4" but I can't be sure.
Thanks!Bulk Reef Supply Hey Katrina,
You are correct, you would want a 4" filter sock with plastic ring :-)
Aqueon ProFlex™ Modular Sump Filtration
Durability
- With aesthetically appealing, clean-line designs, all ProFlex models are manufactured using extremely durable materials, and include a lifetime warranty against leaks.
Quiet Filtration
- As water enters the ProFlex, it flows through a revolutionary bubble diffuser chamber where bubbles are expelled, significantly reducing noise. After water flows through the bubble chamber, it flows through two 200 micron filter socks to remove large particulates.
Flexibility
- Transform the ProFlex into three completely different setups
Keeping Things Flexible - 3 Easy Ways To Create Sump Styles
Refugium - Add a refugium light to create a thriving refugium for your reef aquarium. Live rock and certain plants/algae help control excess nutrients that may hinder the growth of corals in the main aquarium.
Wet/Dry - Using the BioMedia Accessory Pack, turn the ProFlex into a traditional wet/dry trickle filter. Great for use in freshwater and fish-only saltwater applications to provide advanced biological filtration for a heavy fish load.
Berlin - Ideal for reef applications where utilization of a large protein skimmer is imperative. The expansive sump chambers allow for placement of a large protein skimmer and a constant water level.
