Quick Overview

Why does BRS recommend this?

The Pre-Portioned 2 Part Magnesium Mix is one of the easiest ways to supplement magnesium for 2 part dosing.  The mixing of 5 cups Magnesium Chloride to 3 cups Magnesium Sulfate is already done for you keeping your measuring cups in the kitchen and virtually no mess.

Simply just cut the corner of the bag, and pour into a 1 gallon container.  Then top the container off with RODI water and let dissolve for 24 hours prior to use.

Tip: Maintaining proper magnesium levels will help prevent calcium and alkalinity from precipitating which makes maintaining these levels easier as well.

Product Questions

So I have a couple of these and they are leaking some sort of clear fluid. The specific gravity of the liquid is something akin to baby oil or the like. It is odorless and colorless (dunno if it is tasteless am not going to lick the floor to find out). Any ideas what the mystery fluid is and will it effect the final mixture since whatever it is, isn't going to be in the final mix?
Question by: David Carrington on Feb 1, 2016 6:29:00 PM
Hey there!
If the powder Magnesium is having liquid coming out it is related to the magnesium pulling humidity out of the air and resorting to a liquid state, this will not affect the performance of the powder and the remaining powder can still be used. If the solution is mixed and the mr. chili jug is leaking this would be an issue we can help out with on the container. Let us know via email or our support line and we will be more than willing to help!

Once mixed and stored air tight-what's the shelf life?

What's the shelf life of the sealed mix?

Found a gallon container in storage and some misc mix sealed up from a couple years ago so just wanting to confirm.

Thanks!

Hey William,
Short of something contaminating it, it will basically last until the end of time :-) The magnesium(s) in particular are very hygroscopic though so don't be surprised if it has turned hard (or slushy depending on which product you have). Thats nothing to worry about though.

  • AWESOME!!! By Steve on 3/5/2016

This was so easy to use, After mixing together we set the jug in the kitchen sink with hot water and it helped dissolve quickly. Will definitely buy this again!
  • Very Consistent By Jason on 1/1/2016

I like this over the bulk packs. Easy to pour into my chili mixing jugs. Be sure to heat the water up before hand for easy mixing. If not you will be shaking it for a while.

  • Have used for years By Juken on 11/25/2015

Keeps my MAG at a constant 350 with a doser
  • Hard to Mix By DAVID on 9/18/2015

This one is Much more hard to mix.i had to shake the hell out of the jug and still had to place it in the sink with hot. I have noticed that mixing the Magnesium Chloride and sulfate dissolves much more quicker. I rather measure the two and have it dissolve faster.

    Does the job
  • Excellent Product By David on 4/22/2015

Being new to Reef tanks, finding a magnesium supplement and dosing it correctly can be a little daunting. I found this mix on the site and ordered. Its literally dump it in a 1 gallon container, fill with water, shake and let set for a day, its that easy. Then use the calculator input a few numbers to find out your dosing, then your done. And the icing on the cake is its cheap! Highly recommended item!
  • Great stuff By Huff on 4/21/2015

I like to just dump this in and not have to worry about measuring. It's always purer than any other mag supplement I have used. I don't have any black particulates at the bottom of my clear jugs.
